Before you write in
If something went wrong in a game, say which game it was, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. A screenshot of the board is worth more than a description of it.
What you need
- iPhone or iPad. There is no separate Mac app, the iPad app runs on Apple silicon Macs.
- Apple TV, for the viewer, which is a free download.
- Both devices on the same network, if you want to show a game on the TV.
Common questions
Why does it ask for local network access?
Only to find a viewer on your network and send the board to it. If you do not want that, decline it. Everything else works.
The Apple TV app cannot find my game
Both devices have to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and Carddle needs the local network permission on the phone or iPad. Some routers separate guest networks from the main one, and some have client isolation turned on, which stops devices seeing each other. Check that first.
Can I play on the Apple TV?
No. The Apple TV app only watches a game running somewhere else.
Do I have to buy it twice for iPhone and iPad?
No. One purchase covers both. The Apple TV viewer is free.
Is there a Mac app?
Not a separate one. The iPad app runs on Macs with Apple silicon, and that is how we would suggest playing on a Mac.
Is my game saved if I close the app?
Yes, on the device. Nothing is stored anywhere else.
Where are the rules?
Anchor, Tide and Line all have their full rules on this site.
Bugs and requests
Both go to the same address. Rules disputes are welcome too. If the app is enforcing something the written rules do not say, one of the two is wrong and it is worth knowing which.
